The vibrant relationship between Rachel Waldron-D'Abruzzo and the cello was initiated at the age of seven.  Piano was her first instrument of choice but a sudden fascination with this stringed bowed beauty became a firey obsession.  She became intrigued by the literal embracing posture and the diversity of hand and bow techniques.  In her freshman year of high school she began to study with Mikhail Istomin of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and continued under his tutelage for six years.  Throughout high school she participated in various orchestras, chamber ensembles and pursued her music studies.  Side-by-side concerts with the PSO broadened her repertoire and an even greater interest in performance opportunities.  Rachel holds a Bachelor degree in Music from Duquesne University where she maintained her studies with Mikhail Istomin (PSO) and Paula Tuttle with the (Pittsburgh Opera and Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestras).  Her teaching experience includes classroom and private instruction with a local  Pittsburgh Charter school and as well, she has been actively involved within the string program.  Rachel maintains her own private studio for string and piano students sharing her passion for music throughout the Pittsburgh area.
